Israeli friend
A couple of years ago, just after the vaccines were out, I got an israeli roommate. Very sweet, sociable, loved to include everyone and made sure no one was left out of everything. This was especially meaningful to me since I'm a huge weirdo and generally a gremlin, but with her, it was like I could feel like a normal part of the group. Even met her fiance, a wonderful guy, also israeli.
But the one thing I noticed was how deep the propaganda went with them, even then. She was adamant that it was the palestinian feudal-ish lords who sold land to israeli settlers which is the version of how the initial settlement of territory during israel's establishment and the years immediately after - this smells a lot like propaganda, which makes me wonder if this is what they are taught in schools. Since every israeli has mandatory military service, that's another place where propaganda gets to you, I think. Still, she was against the govt at the time in general, how they were always pushing to escalate (understatement in hindsight).
When the oct attacks first happened and there was news about kidnappings, I was very worried for her and her family. Over time though, I don't really know how to talk to her. I wonder how much difference sustained protest from within the country might make the govt stop killing innocents, but I also don't know if it'd really stop without the money/weapons stopping first. I also don't know the propaganda is uniform, and if a population that tightly sealed in their bubble will even think to protest. With the settlers in particular, they treat palestinians (and bedouins) as sub-human in a lot of cases.
I just... don't know how this is going to end. It _has_ to, somehow, but it feels more and more like a ww2 situation.

I would tell then if they were close to me.
And I wouldn't even correct that much, I'd just ask them if killing over 60 000 was worth the 2000. With proof of course.
(I think those are the numbers)
If they weren't close, I wouldn't bother because it's not my place to anymore. Idk if that seems weird, but when it comes to stuff like propoganda, if you start 'educating' them, even if you are right, a lot of people take it as you being hostile to them, and you end up reinenforcing their beliefs.
"And I wouldn't even correct that much, I'd just ask them if killing over 60 000 was worth the 2000. With proof of course." - just their answer to this, will say a lot about them.
