I say this not as a defence for these people—as it’s a very nuanced topic in and of itself—but just to give some perspective for the sake of conversation; there are some people with these sorts of proclivities that do actually despise themselves for having them. Lolis and shotas don’t look like real children. They are stylized drawings. There is no problem with being attracted to fictional underage characters in live action so long as they are played by adults. Yes, but those laws apply to real life children. It's like saying there shouldn't be murder in novels because it's illegal in real life. Fiction is made to safely explore some of those darker realities. People can't be punished for their thoughts, weither it remains within the realm of ideas or is put into writing format, as long as that creation ......   1 reply

I think it's very simply just cognitive dissonance. Accepting the reality that sexualizing children is disgusting, taboo, harmful, unacceptable, etc, they invent reasons that it's okay because the reality of it is too disagreeable and uncomfortable for them.   reply
