Why are action focus manhwa have bad romance?
I absolutely hate romance in action focused manwhas (except for few like the worlds best engineer) because they fail to make it work. It always seems too abrupt and fast. And then the girls personality has the structural integrity of soggy rice paper. Its like they can't find a balance for them. Especially for the MC. They keep forgetting that the mc personality needs to be taken into consideration cus majority of theses male mcs would seem as if they'd never want to get into a relationship or are incompatible with any of the fl cast (this is if they dontwant to go down the neglectful partner pipeline). As such in the case of Solo Leveling. They pushed away a good il for a mediocre one (my opinion btw). Ill never forget that betrayal and that was the beginning of the end for SL for me.
And im not giving the writers a pass because if you wanted romance in yuh book, then youd learn how to make it good step by step instead of making it jank.
Then it comes down to harems and SA/R*pe. It genuinely baffles me how these people are so willfully ignorant on what they write. But yk, SK & JP are well known for their undocumented statistics on SA because the police dont do jack.
Not to mention these plot points arent integral to plot cus its just to give the mc/il an excuse to get closer to each other, as in the case for a manhwa that fell off so bad its astonishing. I forgot the name, but tl;dr: the mc was stuck in the tower for 12 sum years and got out being super op. Later on they started introducing romance but it quickly went downhill when two women drugged the mc to r*pe him cus they "loved" him. My jaw dropped to the floor when i found this out. Because the people behind the screen writing that shit are the ones who pass male SA victims (esp if they're a minor between an authority figure) as them being "lucky".
Also these writers have the chronic illness known as "Dont care, wont learn how to make good female characters which leads down the cant write good romance for shit path".
Maybe i should write a thesis on this topic.... hmm...
To answer the question: Patriarchy. Most Men are into fantasies more than develop emotions. That is not taught into them naturally. so in romance, the emotional disconnect does reflect their work..
I am also a bit bitter with what happened in love interest in Solo Leveling too, but the justifications of him choosing the S class girl left me confli......
