I think you should take professional help. This type of depression is very hard to detect and harder to solve just by having conversations. I hope you try to have a talk with him so that he will agree to atleast have one session with a professional atleast. Sometimes just acknowledging having issue helps. Tell people who can do something about it and try to get him to see people that are trained to help. I can somewhat understand what your friend is going through, and although everybody is different- one advice i can give is that if he shows no reaction to being comforted or you being sympathetic and he wants to stay on his happy go lucky, all the attempts to reach out probably won't work. Hes probably used to keeping to himself and expressing it......   reply

I would start with advice, then the suicide hotline and finally call adult protective services. Where I am they can take people into mental health facilities involuntarily for 72 hrs if they are reported a suicide risk.   reply

Same situation, but i stop being that person friend. Reason why? I'm not capable of being friend with people who has depression. As a person that has helped partners and friends through similar situations, and is also kinda suicidal, what we need most of the time is help Ofc professional help would be best, but the person struggling has to want that kind of help If they refuse, then as a friend you just need to be there for them, reassure them that you'll be by their side, r......   reply

Damn we have the same problem except my friend actually choose to live for now. Comfort and reasons won't work unfortunately, if they set their mind on doing self harm they'll do it.
