MODERN AU
—-----PART 1:-----------
Following the wedding, there is an after party, and one of the grooms delivers a speech. Shen Jiu, known for his literary skills, is expected to deliver a speech that will satisfy family and friends. The wedding was elegant and classy, with the exception of Lou Binghe, who couldn't resist revealing his cry baby side, but above all, it was an occasion of happiness. Both grooms decided to bid farewell and all of the guests sincerely congratulated them.
Well, not Sha Hualing.
At one of the tables, a woman with dark long hair, wearing dark eyeshadow and bold red lipstick, was crying her eyes out, drunk, and mumbling about how she should be with Luo Binghe today, and you can only imagine how people reacted to seeing someone act this way at someone else's wedding! Some even whispered about escorting her out.
Hearing that, her friend whispered: "You should have listened to me and not drank!" “You're humiliating yourself". Sha Hualing's friend, Ning Yingying was relieved they were at the corner table farther away from the stage. Ever since Shen Jiu's speech started, she began drinking wine, and 30 minutes later, even after the grooms had left, she was still going at it!
Sha Hualing eager to say something with her disheveled hair and ruined makeup.
"I..-I reaĺlllllly tried learning that poetry and stuff but, professor Shen is just too good"
"And I thought Luo Binghe was into the bad girl vibe, but Shen Jiu is the polar opposite of me, exquisite, classy, and sophisticated- uhhh, what's the word? Dem demurred?
Ning Yingying , wiped her own face in irritation. Sha Hualing is a wonderful person, however she can come across as too strong at first, but after they get to know her, they will understand how caring she truly is. The hardest part is seeing how kind she is as a stranger.
"Aiyaa, Please, stop drinking already"
She seized the bottle of wine from her and got up.
"What should I do, Ning Yingying??" she asked painfully, and hugging her.
…
"What should I do? I already tried getting Lou Binghe into a lavender marriage, but he doesn't want it. He-he looks so happy today, and I am happy for him. He really went to a hole of a needle for Professor Shen, and it hurts that he didn't even give 0.001% of that effort in our relationship, even if it was just an arranged marriage."
…
"Ning Yingying ?"
"Ning Yingying ? Why are you not speaking?"
After receiving no reaction, Sha Hualing looked up and was surprised to see her junior back in college!
Liu Mingyan
Ning Yingying left as soon as she spoke to get her( Sha Hualing's) younger brother and tell him to bring home this drunkard already, however, Sha Hualing did not hear her.
She quickly rubs off her tear stains, but in the process her lip stick has smeared even more.
In contrast to her, Lou Mingyan appeared cold, composed, and beautiful, as expected from their family's genes. As Sha Hualing looked at her closely, she became conscious of her appearance, so she tried sitting up straight and combed her hair with her hands. Lou Mingyan looked surreal even at university, but tonight she's even more radiant.
Of course, people can't help but wonder why a well known woman would be with someone as bitter as Sha Hualing?!?!
Sha Hualing chose to break the silence between the two of them, knowing that her junior is a woman of few words.
"Ahem.. Sorry about that, I thought you were my friend.
"hmm it's okay"
"Sorry you just have to see me like this"
Liu Mingyan paused before replying:
"It's okay, I know what you feel"
Sha Hualing chuckled and said:
"Yes, haha..." Thank you for trying to cheer me up."
"No, I really do, that's why I attended the wedding"
Sha Hualing's eyes began to water again, and her ears reddened. She asked:
" You, don't tell me..-"
Liu Mingyan nodded, as if she were entertained.
Meanwhile, Sha Hualing felt a sense of camaraderie.
She suddenly hugged Liu Mingyan !
And began speaking things!
"I knew it! You also like Lou Binghe, that's why you used to follow me around back in uni!”
She continued to ramble while hugging Liu Mingyan .
"I know, I know, its okay to cry, just let it out Liu Mingyan "
Unbeknownst to Sha Hualing, Liu Mingyan is far from sad.
—-----PART 2:-----------
Sha Hualing woke up with a splitting headache.
“Well, at least I didn’t end up waking up under an unfamiliar ceiling,” she thought.
But the pain doubled when someone banged on her door!
“Sha Hualing! You’re finally awake? Open the door!”
Sha Hualing rolled her eyes. That was her worrisome younger brother. She was sure it was the same litany of, “You’re an embarrassment when it comes to Lou Binghe!” or, “You don’t think when it comes to Lou Binghe!”
And okay, those were true, but she could assure her brother that now that Lou Binghe was married, she had no interest in him anymore… well, she still had some, but no more trying to shoot her shots.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m going,” she muttered.
Whatever it was, she wasn’t going to deal with it. It was Sunday, and she was going to laze around.
When she opened her door:
“What?”
Her brother immediately shoved his phone in her face, and because of the light, she had to blink to focus on what exactly she was looking at.
“Hmmm?” she muttered, followed by, “Uhh?”
After a moment:
“That’s… me hugging Liu Mingyan, laughing as I was whispering random shit to her because I WAS DRUNK!”
Sha Hualing couldn’t believe the headline of the tabloid:
“An unknown musician trying to seduce an A++ producer to climb the corporate ladder. More to read-”
And below that, a video from yesterday showed Sha Hualing embarrassingly trying to kabedon Liu Mingyan, but she was the short person!
But this was taken out of context, as Sha Hualing remembered she had been thrown off balance from her drunkenness, and while walking beside Liu Mingyan, she had tried to steady herself, accidentally kabedon-ing Liu Mingyan with her arms across the wall, trapping her.
Sha Hualing clearly remembered Liu Mingyan softly smiling and saying, “It’s okay.”
Sha Hualing shoved the phone back to her brother and told him,
“So what? I’m an unknown musician uploading on soundcloud with a day job from home. This’ll die down!”
But her brother didn’t back down. He grabbed the phone back and resumed the video for Sha Hualing.
“Jie-jie, please finish the video!”
After that kabedon, Sha Hualing could be seen staring up at Liu Mingyan for a second. Then there was an exchange of words. Liu Mingyan had a gentle expression and whispered something to Sha Hualing. Sha Hualing smiled back, then tiptoed. Seeing this, Liu Mingyan had to lower her head a bit to accommodate the shorter person, but all of a sudden, Sha Hualing gave her a peck on the lips.
WHAT? WAS? THAT?
The whole video wasn’t even vulgar. It looked like a normal couple going home from a party, tipsy, without a care in the world one amused by the silly antics of their partner, one being adorable but both trusting each other enough that they would go home together.
Well… that was the problem. They WERE NOT A COUPLE!
“That’s probably AI?”
Her brother chuckled in frustration.
“Dad is asking for you in his office. Now!”
Yes, Sha Hualing was still living with her family even at the age of twenty-seven. Not that she was struggling financially she had her own job and could definitely afford to live on her own and not work for the next two years but why would she do that?
Their parents weren’t kicking them out, and what would happen to this house? It had four bedrooms only two occupied plus one master bedroom for her mom and dad, and two offices. Basically, she had no reason to move out. She also didn’t have problems with her family, and spending time with her aging parents was enjoyable. Free food, free travels, and more time for her hobbies.
But not today. She had messed up.
Sha Hualing remembered that after crying her eyes out, Liu Mingyan had escorted her out, left for a bit, then came back with ice cream, and that was all she could remember.
*Knock knock.*
“Come in.”
Sha Hualing’s hands were shaking as she opened the door. She knew her parents wouldn’t kick her out under normal circumstances, but not today.
When she came in, it was bad. Both her parents had horrible expressions.
Sha Hualing sat down on the side couch beside her mom. She waited for them to speak first, but they didn’t, so she went first.
“Mom and Dad… mornin’...”
Her mom looked up at her, placed her hand on Sha Hualing’s knee, and asked,
“This… Liu Mingyan. Do you love her?”
WHAT???
A visible shock spread across Sha Hualing’s face. Not only were she and Liu Mingyan not close, she wasn’t even into women!
Sha Hualing smiled awkwardly and looked straight at her mom.
“Mom, Liu Mingyan was my junior in college, and yes, she’s beautiful, but I have no romantic interest in her.”
After hearing that, her father stood up, sat down beside her, and said,
“Well, that’s too bad. Your mom and I stayed up all night reading the damage control her company sent us.”
Her dad was calm as always, even though there was visible panic for his daughter.
Sha Hualing was getting frustrated.
“What damage control?”
Her mom showed her the laptop, and as she read it, the lines on her forehead kept adding up. How could they not? The letter was so unbelievable she thought it was insulting her!
Sha Hualing read aloud:
“...The entertainment company Liu Mingyan works under, Tian Xian Entertainment, wants me to be included in an upcoming (scripted) variety show as the… antagonist? How would that even work?”
As she kept reading, she saw that refusing to cooperate would result in a fine amounting to $XXXXXX.
Seeing their daughter’s face, and knowing she wouldn’t do something like this deliberately, Sha Hualing’s father said,
“Don’t worry, we’ll resolve this by paying instead.”
Well, Sha Hualing couldn’t allow that. Sure, they weren’t struggling, but they weren’t rich either. Both her parents just had good positions in their respective companies, but they had no business on the side. Sure, they could pay these damages but at the huge cost of her parents’ savings!
“Dad, no. I’ll meet up with them instead and ask them what they really want.”
A reality show? Again, how would that even work?!
