I'm not American but as far as I understand it, a basic calculator is allowed because math is not just about how fast you can do simple operations like addition or multiplication, that's something elementary school kids need to be tested on. As an European who's currently in university and has therefore done a lot of math until now, what?? Having a calculator has nothing to do with your ability to pass an exam unless you're in elementary school and "math" means at most solving a division. The calculator is only allowed when the calculations are only the means you use to get to the solu...... reply
Having a calculator doesnt magically solve the problems tho? Also their exam formats prioritize answer over process, so you could've done 99% of the problem right yet fail bc you missed a step or apply a formula perfectly but it was the wrong one bc the prompt wasnt specific enough reply
