I think this is a pretty white, southern American (southern U.S.) thing. In my culture, dating openly is very frown upon. Like during that period, you’re not supposed to go outside or driving, you should close all windows and doors, keep your children indoors, avoid sleeping, and avoid using any sharp tool.
