Comfort vs Criticism

I wanted to ask this, is not wanting criticism when you vent bad? Like "oh you can do this to heal but you're not doing it so you're just making it worse for yourself." type of criticism, i know sometimes it IS needed for that person to hear it but i think alot of people don't know how to do it with empathy. This is my opinion (which I'd like to educate myself more on) cause I get it there are things we can't always sugarcoat to someone. Not therapist or any of that professional to handle someone venting, but i feel like when some ppl want to be "straightforward" it's just abit not rlly empathetic on the person? I mean yeah it's easy when you say it but doing it is hard.

If mental health problems were so easy to solve, therapy wouldn't be so expensive. Even therapy sessions take long time, some ppl heal differently and in different ways. Some ppl just don't want to get better as they feel secure in unsafe way which is contradicting but its true.

I'm not saying you have to keep suffering yourself for this someone, you ARE allowed to leave but also leaving bare consequences like losing a friend ofc, but that's just part of the process of leaving. You are allowed to choose yourself, to be selfish for once and not handle their problems because it is their responsibility at the end of day.

I guess my point is, when advicing them try to make it more like a choice for them, cause i think that's less mean towards them. This is about ADVICES or SELF-HELP of someone struggling NOT criticism like you telling them that they're actually being an asshole.

That's abit of a different topic which i won't talk abt in this thread for now

I agree. You're supposed to give them advice and help them cope, not force a choice on them that might not even help. I actually don't really know what I'm talking about since i never experienced this but don't be too harsh on the person, only when it really is needed.
