Yaoi becoming “performative”
I’ve been reading Yaoi since like 2020, and I have really notice a shift in opinions, I never told any of my irl friends that I read Yaoi back then but now I’ve told a few people. But I think that Yaoi becoming performative isn’t really a bad thing but some content creators on tik tok take it too far, lamy for example (idc if I spelled their name wrong) she criticizes people who read illegally but I feel like that’s how things get an English translation and become popular like if sites like this didn’t exsist no one would know most of these things also it creates an established fan base with people that are able to support the author, I’m not saying “oh don’t support” but some of us don’t have the financial privilege to support authors and she really doesn’t see that. To also address another thing that’s been bothering me, but I feel like sa in Yaoi is so normalized and looked over, I’ve seen opinions like “they are just drawing” but it doesn’t change the issue that the idea of sexually assaulting someone exists and you shouldn’t be deliberately promoting it for a stupid plot devise especially if it’s overlooked. You can like toxic yaoi idgaf but if you enjoy the sa involved in it thats fucked up. I can name 17 yaoi that have sa involved and is completely overlooked and I WILL painter of the night, champagne and roses, flashlight, jinx, yours to fucking claim, Hosik's story, love is an illusion, dukes private tutor, endead, rix vanus, COLOR RECIPE, Sadistic Beauty BL Sidestory, obey me, put a smile on, Legs That Won't Walk, dangerous convince store, and slammer dogs. I have a lot of other opinions but this is getting to long.
i also find it so crazy that reading yaoi is “performative now” i remember when you couldn’t even say you read it as a women cause your fetishizing gay men lol. i do enjoy it being more public now tho since i get more recs
