It’s called acting. You’re pretending to be something you’re not. Back in Shakespeare’s day, men played woman’s roles, kabuki in Japan is performed by males, etc. Actors are supposed to make you believe in their role, so what they are r who they like in real life should have no bearing.   reply

yes but it shouldnt take away from queer actors getting their parts. it’s complicated and the topic that queer actors are undercasted in favour of their more socially acceptable non-queer peers should be added to this conversation a role is a role but discrimination also exists   1 reply

Yes, cause why not? Acting is about portraying someone different from yourself. While representation matters, an actor’s sexuality shouldn’t determine whether they’re allowed to take on a role. They’re actors,their profession is acting, and their personal lives or sexual preferences have nothing to do with their careers. That's what i belie......   reply

I don’t think we should be knowing the sexualities of actors at all, it’s none of our business. If they want to share it they can, but they shouldn’t feel pressure to. Honestly, I never understood this discourse. When my favourite webtoon/novel gets adapted the only thing I beg for is please don't hire wooden stiff actor and for the writers to not butcher the storyline. I don't care about their visual even. I mean, the director decides who is suitable for a role, or the actor decides whether to accept it. And yes, there are a lot of straight people who play queer roles, but they wanted to play the role and they wanted to represent something and I think they do it well sometimes.   reply

Though I am highly against letting straight men out of their cages in the basement I believe talent should determine who gets the role not sexuality, and when it comes to the issue of representation let the character do the representing not the actor their job is to bring the character to life and nothing else a good actor (regardless of sexuality)......   reply
