What do the in-laws expect from their daughter in law?

It's a question targeted towards a narrow spectrum of society, nevertheless, I believe that everyone should be aware of the difference between the treatment towards son in laws n daughter in laws. In developing countries, women are expected to be unpaid maids and the wives are made mute by societal pressure. How would you suggest a solution for this problem?
