Vent channel time
Hi I’m turning the forums into the vent channel for a sec to ask for advice about my situation, this deals with race and slurs so yeah leggo
So I play Fortnite with some online friends I’ve had for around 2 years atp, two are white (guy and girl) one is black (guy), I’m also black (girl). I’ve talked to the white ones about how I deal with people using the n word against black purple at school all the time and have had it used against me multiple times, have been taunted with it, made fun of, yk typical racism experience I guess, and that I don’t want to hear it from them cause when I get on the game I wanna have fun, relax, and yk escape and I can’t if my game experience is some white person spewing the n word just like in real life. I’ve had issues with the white guy doing the same elementary level bs saying something close to the n word and laughing abt it and then downplaying it to me but wtv. Well tn I hopped on and all three of them where in discord so I got in and convo for a bit then went to reset my wifi cause I was lagging. But right before I left the call I suddenly hear someone repeatedly saying the n word… now, I thought it was the black guy cause for some reason that’s his favorite thing to say sometimes so I disregarded it. Got back in, ran one game, in end game fight the white guy says ‘niggas can’t have shit’ and white girl goes ‘real’ and now I’m messed up cause they know that I don’t like that…. So I left after cause I’m uncomfortable cause why are you pushing my boundaries after I’ve already made it clear what I don’t like… it’s not even like I care what they do off the mic, I just wanted a nice gaming environment for myself. And I already tolerate them saying all sorts of other slurs and racist remarks because of I said anything I would be that friend that’s too woke… it just feels like they sat and waited for me to sort of ‘get comfortable’ and push it like I’ve experienced irl but it’s a bit difficult to approach when it’s online actually. anyways any suggestions for next steps? Lmk

girl they are pushing your boundaries and they do not care. I mean if they are fucking frustrated which I get I game too.They could use any curse word. Find someone else to play with like??? You don't have to accept racism thrown at you in online spaces you are a human that deserves basic respect, you deserve to have fun without being dehumanized so cut these racist off. If you have to play alone so be it

personally I would just block them, but if ur not comfortable with doing that right away thats fine. but you rlly need to put ur foot down and tell them straight up it makes you uncomfortable. its not really about being woke or not anymore, its about whether or not they genuinely respect you as a person. These people suck and I'm sorry you gotta deal with this shit. As others have said, the next step is to ditch these guys. You've clearly set your boundaries, now comes the time to enforce them. Walk away. You can't control their behavior and they obviously don't respect you enough to control it themselves so. Fuck em
