coming from a huge texas school:
we had 4 required core subjects (math, science, history, english) and from there, for the most part, you could pick your courses yourself;
math: statistics, financial math, calculus, geometry etc
science: anatomy, robotics, forensics, aquatics, astronomy, etc
history: texas history, world geography, art history, gov......
