Context can matter sometimes. If people don't understand a sound that's meant to be an alert to the characters in some way we the audience won't know or understand and can be confused at times.
Gun fire when you can clearly see the gun firing? Translation unneeded.
A sound that alerts character of danger? Translation needed.
