Writing this cause I discussed ts with another highly literate janka fan and wanna post our thoughts :3 (this is split between their thoughts and mine but im not specifying it most of the time)

FIRST, we discussed how Zanka and Jabber are NOT bi but gay and how people try so hard to deny it:

People insist Jabber and zanka(mainly Jabber since he’s gotten bricked when dudes beat him and up) are at LEAST bi when they’ve shown no attraction to women.
Like Jabber especially he is all but confirmed gay with how he acts towards men specifically(for example the scene where he’s like strong dudes staring at me like Im trash but I can only get to bricked up, and in his pov it’s only the male cleaners when Riyo is right there but he cuts her out) but he’s the one people push to be bi the hardest (Zanka people think is bi or just straight ngl but his difference between Jabber and Hyo should scream the gay coding behind him enough like cmon, cause if zanka was straight there would be more tension between the two and not him and Jabber.)
I also feel like people who don’t like janka(which is fine idrc) are more prone to deny that they are gay just cause they dont like the ship idk.
People are so anti shipping these days that I feel like they just headcannon everyone as straight an can never see anybody with anyone even if it’s cannon like straight, queer, all of them are so hated on it pmo.
It’s just upsetting that people assume this like yes some ppl r gay and that’s perfectly fine T-T genuinely do we not have media literacy anymore why do we need stuff spoon fed to us



Then we talking about other ships with Jabber and zanka and how people hate on janka a lot:

lately the ship between Zanka x Eishia has gotten sooo popular and the comments are always “finally it’s not Janka” and it gets way more love than Janka (there’s always someone arguing against Janka on any post above 1k likes) and it’s like why is this ship between two characters who have barely interacted (I have my own crack ships so I’m not hating on the concept of them tho I do get a bit irked at ships with gay coded characters in non gay ships lol) getting this much hype and love and people openly hating on Janka in the comments?
It feels like homophobia at this point and I also have noticed people don’t like saying a male character is gay if they’re attracted to them I’ve felt like I was overreacting but I keep seeing it everywhere.(this whole text is them)
(Me)And tbh I don’t like any other ship with Jabber or zanka in it besides janka(because they seem made quite literally just for each other and pairing them with someone else seems wrong) but im not fucking hating on the other ones or arguing, I still find some of the videos cute but if it annoys me I just scroll and move on why do people fight about them??? Like it’s not that deep they’re just ships. And it it also just boggles my mind how homophobic people enter clearly queer fandoms of canonically queer shows/books like YOU’RE THE ONE NOT WELCOME HERE WE AREN'T THE WEIRD ONES
and again I understand not shipping janka but blatantly ignoring why people ship it and say they have zero chemistry make me so mad like you are just fucking lying.
If you wanna ship a straight ship can we just avoid the queer characters in general it’s not that hard smh some of these people have got to be rage baiting.
And I really hate how people dumb down zanka and jabbers dynamic to simply being enemies and that Zanka purely hates Jabber like no.



And then we started talking about hinted lesbian characters and how they get different treatment them the hunted gay ones:

I don’t see anybody doing ts with semiu it’s just Jabber and zanka who people are denying like their life depends on it that they’re not gay or at LEAST bi but just ship them with women and ignore any gay part of them.
Like if a female character is clearly gay coded she’s more accepted as lesbian (except homophobes who try to say they’re straight obvi) no one is saying “semiu is at least Bi” like it’s only with Zanka and Jabber?
It’s just homophobia towards men and it’s such a weird thing to watch getting more normalized Jabber literally expressed being aroused specifically to the men too not any of the women and he’s the one being pushed as bi the hardest.
I also just find it weird that people don’t question semiu being lesbian(at least I barely see and discourse about it) with how unpopular wlw ships are but find it horrible when it’s mlm despite them being the most popular in a lot of fandoms if that makes sense, or maybe theres just not any arguments about them because of how unpopular they are T-T most of the hate goes to the mlm ship sighhh. These ppl need to pour their hatred into minor x adult ships instead



And then we talked about how people mischaracterize them into being purely “toxic yaoi” and think that zanka only hates Jabber:

I HATE that people go “yes toxic yaoi!” Like no that is not what this is?
And they say how they “love how they bring the worst out of each other” when I haven’t seen that? I honestly think they’re set up to bring the BEST out of each other like it’s things like that that annoy me too it feels like people want to dumb it all down (especially Jabber) as toxic unhealthy memes.
Like it’s not a good thing zanka is holding back cause he thinks he’s average from trauma, and Jabber helping him break free from that mindset by seeing him as a potential equal despite being a genius is a good thing, and not just that, it’s also helping Jabber be able to fight freely like he wants to and usually cant with other people, even zodyl.
They’re meant for each other cause they bring out the the best in each other, and I obviously wouldn’t say they aren’t toxic at all because of how their dynamic is with each other and personality’s, but if it works for them it work for me.
Like if they got together now it’d be toxic bc they’re still enemies and not even starting to heal from traumas, but if they had time to evolve and get closer it would naturally progress into an actual healthy relationship with a foundation built on them seeing each other as equals and seeing past the surface level that ironically even the fandom only sees them as.
Jabber’s masochism is 1000% from trauma (pre sure any masochism is and he even said the neurotoxin he got from a guy trying to KILL HIM with it and no one really talks about that?) and Zanka doesn’t acknowledge the masochism and definitely doesn’t see him as just that he sees the genius and skill hidden behind that and just they need more interactions bc I don’t think we’ll get true growth for either of them without the other involved because of how they’ve been written so far it would be so unsatisfying / wouldn’t make sense if they only had one more fight for Zanka to magically level up and that would be done with their interactions (an assumption I’ve seen since joining the fandom)
They both see each other past the surface level like most people don’t even if they’re friends.
Like Ive only seen people refer to Jabber as a masochistic creep(in manga), and maybe the raiders can see him a bit more as a person and not who he is as results from his trauma(a sadomasochist), cause we do have scenes of zodyl acknowledging that Jabber is super smart, but their relationship is purely boss and subordinate and nothing deeper, cause we know so far that zodyl doesn’t care for any of the raiders deeply as a person and hasn’t mourned for any of his losses plus he’s lowk bad at having ppl want to follow him with fu defecting to the cleaners and Jabber himself says he doesn’t care about the raiders, and bcs of this, we’ve only seen zanka refer to Jabber as a genius as see’s him more as a person unlike anybody else so far even though the only interactions they’ve had is fighting each other which is smth u dont see in any other enemies in gachi(besides with amo which if you do mental gymnastics you can consider them a parallel with janka considering Jabber has a 99% chance of having some sort of sexual abuse in his past like amo, and rudo being hated cause his father was a murderer and having to live with that pressure his entire life, while zanka had to live with the pressure of being perfect and they both “failed” the people who put these pressures on them), and no cleaner see’s the potential in zanka like Jabber does, like Jabber already knows how strong zanka is, but just feels like he’s holding back and the cleaners think he has potential but just isn’t there yet.



Finally we talked about what it would be like if they where to die and how Jabber could potentially become a cleaner:

I can’t rlly see both of them dying unless kei decides to make zanka kill Jabber but that wouldn’t be as interesting as them actually becoming a duo of some sort.
The only way I could see Jabber dying is at the hands of Zanka or bc of Zanka in some way but I don’t think he would kill him for real but Jabber being killed bc he left the cleaners for Zanka and used to hurt Zanka?
That could be some possibilities but I also doubt that bc again Jabber is too smart and skilled and they’re the hardest characters to kill in a narratively appropriate way.
I also don’t think Jabber would leave the cleaners for Zanka, like yes that would be super cool and I would love to read about but Jabber himself said that weather they’re cleaners or raiders doesn’t matter, and as long as he can continue fighting zanka and living in a way he find enjoyable, it’s not important.
Though I am curious as to why Jabber joined the cleaners in the first place, like is it purely to fight strong people?
That could be the case but there might also be other reasons.
And it could be just zodyl keeping him with the raiders cause he’s the only person that can beat Jabber up cause of how strong he is, but maybe perchance once Zanka finally let’s go of “average Joe” mindset and overcomes his trauma and is able to fight Jabber equally, there might be nothing keeping Jabber with the raiders since not only does he have someone who can fight him just like how he wants, but they’re equals too and have a genuine connection with each other and he’ll go on whichever side can keep him with zanka.
