Do people actually care if a ship becomes canon?

I don’t really understand why it’s so important as long as there is a good fanbase for the ship I think it’s enough. I understand joking about how canon they are or how they should be canon because you like it (I do it too cause it’s fun) but I really don’t think other than some delusional individuals people care that much. The only time I personally get angry is when someone mocks my intelligence by saying stupid shit like “you know they’re not canon right?” or “that character is in a canon relationship with another character” LIKE NO SHIT SHERLOCK I KNOW and probably better then you too at that.
Other than that stuff like “they don’t make sense” (they don’t have too) “they have no canon interactions” (they do in my head) “They are like siblings tho” (they are not siblings and your headcanons of them being so don’t concern me) “them being together is so ooc” (yeah to be fair but is it genuinely that big of a problem ooc isn’t gonna kill you) and like many more of these don’t piss me off even half as much as “but they aren’t canon”
I guess I just hate people telling me obvious stuff I already know. Anyway I just wanted to know if anyone really cares about a ship being canon??
