Rate or dont Rate???

So I rated everything I read, I thought that was normal, but I saw everyone say their lists are gone because they didn't rate them why not! I mean all my reading was resorted to my already read but I have everything from my lists!( - want to read) I'm just confused why No one rated anything!
What y'alls opinion? rate or don't rate?
