BL reader Rant (im tired of this)
I genuinely cannot take ts anymore, do you know whats worse than reading one chapter of a BL and having to drop it bc of the authors very apparent rape fetish?
Reading 70 to 100+ chapters of a SLOWBURN BL where the stories main couple then have sex AND ITS SOME UNCONSENSUAL BULLSHIT. I CANT TAKE THIS ANYMORE, I BELIEVED IN YOU. Its so fucking normalised its sickening, WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN SO OFTEN????
No, your partner is NOT into it despite his VERBAL remarks he isnt, JUST because his body is responding!?!?!!! <— this one ESPECIALLY riles me up, bc i see it FARRRR too frequently in stories where up until then the couple have been perfectly healthy with each other???
No they are not being “cheeking” and “teasing” fondling their boyfriend who is clearly uncomfortable with the situation but who's body is responding. THATS ASSUALT.
Its the same disgusting shit ppl say to try to discredit the experiences of victims. “You got hard you must want it? You climaxed you must have enjoyed it?” I feel sick typing these words even, auergh.
And yes IT IS STILL RAPE, even IF your partner IS enjoying it and telling you otherwise, BECAUSE YOU CANT KNOW THAT. Oh jee, our bottom loves this but is too “shy” too admit it and keeps telling the top to stop!! HE IS RAPING HIM, ARE YOU CLUELESS. ALL THE TOP HEARS IS “NO, NO, NO!” AND HE KEEPS PUMMELING AWAY.
Another infuriating thing, when the want for sexual intimacy is reciprocated between two characters who enthusiastically and consentingly engage but, nope!!!! the author cant help themselves!!!!
Insert a scenario, top is enjoying the intimacy but needs a short break, bottom ignores/refuses, and continues to initiate physically against tops wishes.
YES IT IS 100% RAPE, when your partner asks for a break, AND U DONT COMPLY, HOW IS THIS EVEN IN QUESTION????
In a similar vein, there are many cases where u can tell the author is using this to demonstrate a characters “intense love” for another (oh how fucked up). Too many lovey dovey pairings have lulled me into a sense of trust, and then they go and whip out the non consent…
For instance, the two parties engage and the leading character is asking and receiving enthusiastic consent, (oh joy!!!). But oh no, here comes the surprise! Although these two were having a fine dandy time two seconds ago, and our lovely seme was being oh so attentive HES NOW SO OVERCOME BY HIS “LUST” ALL THAT GOES OUT THE FUCKING WINDOW, BE SO FOR REAL.
One of the characters suddenly “cant control themself”, and of course they must claim this loudly to their partner!!! “Look what you’ve done to me!! I cant control myself when im with you, don't tell me to stop bc i cant!!!” What follows is the top doing whatever they please, and using it as an excuse to go against their partners wishes.
Don’t even get me started on other examples, THEY ARE NEVER ENDING. So many instances of sexual intimacy between someone who is clearly not in their right mind and another who is very much aware of that and taking advantage of it, no this is not select to being drunk, although that is one i see repeated alot.
Lots of these non con scenes can come out of nowhere too?? These characters can be going at it for 70 chapters, all healthy and IN ONE OF THEM, theres non con and then its just back to normal like huh???? I half feel like im imagining it, bc it makes no sense, its all way too normalised. Ive had times where ive been rereading a well loved work thats written like this and finding a gross scene that i must of mentally blanked out— im not even safe in my fave lists ಠ_ಠ.
Its so exhausting bc i feel like everything i read is a thinly veiled trap, with every sex scene waiting to reveal some authors sick wet dream.
Why is it so hard to label ur horrid fantasies before ive invested my time and heart into ur story?
At least with the dark ones, they are very easy to discern as containing that kind of stuff. The comment section, story description, tags and many times chapter warnings tell me all i need to know. But stories filled with tender romance that get flipped on their head the second intimacy gets involved feel so deceitful and im so tired of it.
After years of being a yaoi reader maybe ive finally reached the point where im ready to stop entirely.

I see you, I hear you, I feel you! So! Much! there's apparently a bit of a cultural/linguistic explanation for the litany of "no" and "stop" in sex scenes that aren't meant to be rape, where it's intended as an expression of being overwhelmed by, but not entirely refusing
(accidentally hit post too soon ╥﹏╥)
sex. that said, there are sex scenes where it's clear both parties are enjoying the ride, so it's still not something I care to see a lot of.
it'd be great to see more smut focused stories that feature more mutual sexual exploration and not just one side (98% of the time, the bottom) being swept away by the other and that somehow being an experience they keep wanting to have. though, to be honest, they usually don't! and that's the basis of the chasing/avoidance arc that makes up the plot for so many series.
where's the sexual agency for bottoms, and the tops with sense?
Ah yes I’ve heard of this too!! I try to keep in mind the language differences between the og and translated version when Im irked by a scene, but it can rly put me off.
I totally agree about the want for more mutual sexual exploration in stories aeurghh Too many stories of sex being pushed onto the bottom by the top, and yep the chasing/avoidance arc being the main plot is so true and so annoying.
Is it too much to ask for a bottom who's enthusiastic about the sex?! Feels like they’re just trapped putting up with it half the time and then slowly eased into wanting it..
Ngl it's not a problem for everyone bc they can tell what kind of stories normally have rape in them. If you've been reading for years you should probably be able to tell by now, it's those that has toxic or drama related that most often has rape as a plot point, and also more common in manhwa bc of thier demographic. Either avoid it or you're gonna have to accept it bc you're not the main demographic of the type of manga/manhwa you're reading. And if everything is this triggering to you, you should probably reassess why you're even reading something with porn in the first place, because even shoujo ai uses these types of plot points. There's plenty of non-porn yaoi (called shounen ai) that exist, so maybe read those instead of complaining, it's not normal being this triggered about fictional characters. Fictional is not real life and no one is taking it this seriously, everything is a fantasy.
I think you're missing op's point. even when you avoid the obviously "dark and twisted" series, you'll still often come across sex scenes like op described in more innocuous stories, like the campus or office romances that otherwise aren't particularly violent or dramatic. a person can do their best to mind the tags and content warnings, but there's still a definite pattern of one-sided sexual encounters in even the "lighter" stuff.
I don't think it's unreasonable to want more mutually enthusiastic sex scenes in stuff, regardless of the type of story.
Brother you literally side stepped the entire point that was being reiterated across OP's argument (which is crazy because it's obvious). It doesn't matter whether OP is the target demographic or what not, and this type of occurrence isn't as specific as you make it out to be because it is incredibly common. No use in trying to shift the author's responsibility of writing ACTUAL GOOD ROMANCE (that isn't lazy and built off of fucking rape??) to the consumer, who is looking for a good story to read. If the consumer is misled, it's not their fault. If you're going to write up a reply to a well argumented comment such as OP's with ACTUALLY strong and reasonable points just to shit on them because YOU feel hurt in some way, then don't write the reply at all lmao... You're not contributing to anything babes, just embarrassing yourself online. Have a good one
This was meant to be a reply...
To kokoro's dumbass comment
Bit of an odd comment, I don't think you actually read what I said lol?
I thought I was clear enough on my message to avoid a reply like this, bc i know that discussing the prevalence of rape in yaoi (as an issue), is a sensitive topic, especially to those who enjoy that sort of thing. Im not here to call for mass censorship or anything wild like that and am not asking for every story to appeal to my taste.
Dont worry though, I’ll reiterate my actual main point for you just to make it all the more clearer ♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪ !!
Im not talking about dark stories with obvious rape themes. Exactly as you said, (and i mentioned too), those are easy to discern and stay away from if I so please.
Im talking about long running stories that are deceitfully sweet and romantic, including ones filled with smut, where, despite the healthy, fluffy nature of the main relationship, they will very randomly add in non consensual scenes. Something that was completely unprompted, and then they’ll just continue on with the story.
Its difficult to avoid something thats given no sign it will appear and I just wanted to express my disappointment with that <3.
Ahhh this didnt send as a reply
what manhwa was this
