For future reference, I think a word like mindful would be better here than tasteful. I think a lot of people associate tasteful with things like decor and aesthetics and generally use it to mean that something looks nice or is good. Seeing a word like tasteful paired with grooming can be very upsetting, even though you didn't mean it in the way that those commentors thought you meant it.
