While I don't really "self ship" any more, I don't think it's wrong or weird either. It's just people using their imagination. For some people, it's a form of escaping a reality they are unhappy with, even if just for a little bit. From loneliness or unhappiness, or for whatever reason. You make it sound like rape in stories and porn are exclusive to Asian cultures. Americans and Europeans come up with some pretty fucked up shit too. And it is even worse that they do it, because like you said, it is considered taboo. So they PURPOSELY create images that people consider "wrong" but read anyways.
