I don't write much anymore, but when I did I really liked doing thriller/horror and romantic dramas. A lot of my stories centered around two female characters with complex relationships, and I added A SHIT TON of queer subtext. I always did struggle with writing characters with specific occupations or hobbies, since I didn't want to get any details......   reply

Maybe it's because romance as a genre is moreso catered towards women, and most women are attracted to men, so they like to see men in love with other men, or like to imagine themselves in a relationship with a man (het stories) That being said though I'm a lesbian that reads primarily bl so I'm not too sure lol   reply

Usually tops looks are more extravagant and the bottoms are more bland so it's easier for straight women to self insert. Well that's how it originally was at least. Personally I still always think the bottoms look better though because they're cuter, and I like women so there's probably some correlation there.   reply

For me, I don't really like it when there's a power dynamic, for example like a bully and a victim, or a mobster and the person they kidnapped, but I'm fine with things like rivals or just enemies, dynamics where the characters can stand on equal footing but still hate each other. That kind of dynamic is probably still more on the unrealistic side......   1 reply
