I used to have a huge religious trauma. Now it's manageable. I try to be accepting of all religions. But some are just more progressive, like Buddhism(Zen) or Hinduism(Advaita Vedanta).
history knows some Christian mystics though, they are fine. Christian Mysticism can be progressive too
(p.s. we were talking about Christianity, but actually Islam......

kinda sounds like there could be a lot of suppressed shame on your side. if you have the means talk it out with a therapist. all suppressed/unprocessed emotions are harmful and keep stealthily fuck your life up.
if you are curious find some eft tapping video on yt with "shame" or "toxic shame" topic and try to tap and see if there is any response
