It's definitely BS and part of it is because people who make any amount of money are considered employed in calculating this statistic. Spend a few hours a week driving for doordash or something similar? You're employed. Do freelance commissions occasionally? You're self-employed. Doesn't matter if you don't have a full time job and you make pennie......
