Something I learned when I were a teenager is that you can't save other people.
Whether it be bad choices, a bad mindset or a bad environment - it's not your duty to save anyone from it. It's their duty to save themselves and choose what's good for them.
That is not to say we should leave our loved ones be - your duty as a friend, a family member, ......

I might be wrong, but it sounds like there were and are underlying issues that simply came up to the surface after a big problem was mostly solved.
I think what you are right now, is in pain. Migrating is hard. Family issues are hard. The future is unknown and you might feel directionless.

Pitch black doesn't sound like poop, according to Google the most common culprit is the breakdown of black rubber gaskets or flappers within the toilet tank, which can release black, oily residue into the water.
If you washed it well I believe it'll be fine, ideally don't wash the inside with soap to not mess up with the PH levels there.

May I offer a perspective I've learned about wanting to be better than everyone else?
I think a lot of us grow up with the mindset that we need to be special. That we are special. Maybe it's because we have a talent for X. Maybe it's because we look like Y. Maybe because A,B,C.
