In these situations i just ask. Like i'd just say "Are we gonna kiss?" and depending on their reaction I'd act as if it were a joke or give them the smooch. These jokes are pretty common for me tho so it might just make things more awakward if youre usually more serious.

My stepmom was a bitch and in elementary school we were forced to write cards on mother's day.
