They aren't strong. They are badly written characters written by authors who have sex fetishes and some very therapy worthy issues. After reading a certain amount of BLs, it becomes pretty clear most of these authors have never spoken to a gay man, that's how unrealistic and asspull their writing is. Not the worst take I have read here imo, but this one user said in opposition to f/m readers who were deriding BL authors, they preferred to read BL because they were sick of seeing rape and fetishization of women in f/m works.
