You can see this trope everywhere in media, regardless of genre, both in fiction and reality. That's why you see this trope even in shounen, action genres, and of course, it can be really frustrating if it's excuted really bad. I am obviously not unfamiliar with hating a character, but when I do, there will be always someone who has to say that "I just don't understand their character" and I "lack media literacy".
