When I went to Italy and drunk 2 glasses of wine with lunch, got gin and tonics after dinner and then drank half a martini. I still managed to walk to the gelato shop and then 20 minutes back to the place I was staying but I was definitely slightly wobbly.

New Zealand has some great hiking/backpacking, definitely recommend checking that out. The Abel Tasman is my fav.
