I have read enough of so many vapid stories with all the same tropes and plot to know you're probably right and I hate myself for it.

I agree. The interesting thing is how they reconcile after the stupidity occurs. Th at can vary a bit more.
1. Gil thinks Rina is gonna be the Crown Prince's concubine, confesses to her, Rina is hesitant because "eeeh why me??!" And then they'd avoid each other
Or
2. Rina will misunderstand Gil's sulking and theyll move on to discussing the aura and what the crown Prince said
