Imagine you had a dog and your best friend preferred someone else's dog and would avoid you to see the other dog, you'd feel pretty upset. Same if a parent saw their kid hanging out with someone else's parents more, they'd get possessive and try to do things that made the kid like them more. He isn't acting strange compared to his best friend basically never seeing him
