woops I'm reading so many stories like this i don't even remember which one's refer to the ruler as king or emperor lol wait is there even an emperor in this story that this distinction is important enough to mention?

I think the king refers to the king of her country while the emperor is the one that hosted the competition. I could be wrong tho ¯_(ツ)_/¯
