I guess the only thing that change was that before they made it look like it was super cute and not that forced, but now more people like this type of thing so it's normal that the authors go to what sells more lol.
I've seen a lot of people saying "what happened to the yaoi community" and honestly, nothing has changed. A LOT of the older yaois have rape, little consent, and where one character is straight in the beginning. This is nothing new. We all like good consent with a respectful ML but this is not one of those stories. If this not your cup of tea, go check out other ones.
Side note: BDSM should NOT be like this irl. Consent is key kiddos
