The real cale wasn't actually trash but acted like trash because at first his stepmom and siblings weren't accepted by the counts's people and vassals so he acted like trash to elevate his stepmom and siblings reputation and solidify their position in the family. Because as seen in one of the flashbacks when ron said that when cales mother died he comforted his father which shows that he was actually already mature for his age. It was also mentioned in the novel that he talked to Basen his stepbrother and told him to be proud and stand tall because he was now part of the family and that no one should be able to question that. At this time many were still against the new countess and her children. Also, cale never really laid a hand or went violent on them and never projected his anger towards them. So basically this isn't proven or canon just sime deduction and hypothesis and stuff. Okay don't hate me and say im saying shit im sorry. You can also ask me questions if you're curious about more.
