I have a feeling he was abusive and controlling. In an earlier chapter he said she could hit him if she wants to and she replied “do really think I’ll hit you? Do you think I’m like you?” She also mentioned something about him always inspecting things until he finds the answer or whatever. So yeah, he better cry alright.
