I think that the man will die. The angel will be sad and pray to meet his true love again. God will hear these prayers and see the man and angel. He will see that the man is a pure and kind man with a great love for his people and that there is true love between him and the angel. Then God will make the man an angel too and have them together watch over the country they both love. This way no one is lonely and they can be together forever
Maybe it's the fact he was chosen over the people for the kingdom. Plus Idk the limitation of his powers but maybe he can grant immortality or no aging or something. Or die with him. Idk

but the angel is immortal tho? he'd still be left alone, so thats a sad ending? (unless he became mortal after getting his wings black)
