Yes, it is.
Beware of any kind of disgusting imagery of life. For me what makes this more tragic than aot because it's bump into many kinds of problems in our life. Extremist, rape, adultery, the darkness of human nature, massacre, etc.
And what makes this more compelling than AOT is the depth of each character, the intriguing storyline, the vast world-building illustrated in an amazing way.
I also read AOT, but Berserk definitely made me can't stomach things after reading it (especially the Gut's flashback and the eclipse chapter) and I cant dare myself to reread that 2 chapters again after all this time. If you know Pewdiepie on youtube, you can watch his review on Berserk in one of his videos, I think it sums up well people reaction when reading the manga. LOL.
The first chapters may throw you off because of the illustration quality, but as the chapters progress, you'll see how far Miura's art has come. (Like Isayama's art progress)

Omg love him. :) I asked on Reddit and they say to read the manga and then watch the anime. I love dark stuff. Nothing can affect me. I watch real life killings on bestgore sometimes, so I know what the world's like! (〜￣△￣)〜

Thanks. And it's awesome. It's the only manga that I haven't been able to put down. And I was wrong about the gore and the horror in the story. It's so much worse than I imagined. 。゜(｀Д´)゜。

if needed you can clean your eyes vigorously with water after reading those chapters. I've done that in the past LOL
