not only does she wield the power of one of the greatest noble families, she's also a woman; not any woman, a woman that looks like the late empress that everyone was obsessed with. so she holds a shit ton of power in their current world.
even in reality, the catholic church has always been corrupt. they wanted to become the most dominant power in the nation; so shulli basically became a threat to their falling power. ----that is why the pope enabled this action of murder.
the priest bitch is another story: he's a bit delusional. he's more obsessed with shulli.... the kind of obsession that is birthed from denial.
