Honestly, I don't trust Tristan. Maybe he fell in love with Gaspal and is being used. However, a suspicious part of me thinks he is not loyal. I feel like if Ivona takes him in, he will try to seduce the duke.

Obvioulsy he isnt to be trusted did you not read the chapter about the past.

Gaspal is stupid, too stupid to use Tristan.
Tristan is the "smart" one. He praised and fawned over gaspal, who wanted to be praised, recognized and idolized by everyone. Tristan tried to use ivona to make gaspal the golden summoner so Gaspal could become (a puppet) emperor while tristan wielded all the power. Practically whispering in the emperor's ear what he wants to happen.

I am looking at it from the perspective of the present. As in he could be desperate because he wanted attention and maybe if given any he might not turn out such a bad person. This is also in response to another comment by a reader wondering if Tristan is actually bad or just influenced by Gaspal and circumstances.
Obviously, I did read the past, but this is the present. So things could take a different turn. That's what I was questioning. Ended up concluding he might not be a victim of circumstances.

idk if you have read painter of the night...but it is almost like the nobleman there...just staying behind the scenes so someone else becomes the villain....I think Tristan is doing the same

I don't think that anwser is straightforward. Tristan is obsessed with become an influential person since he came from a poor family while his uncle was stupid and wealthy. He didn't understand why his father who was a better or smarter person couldn't inherit the title. He himself wants to climb the ranks as much as possible. He's pretty smart and instead of showing of his talents he decides to remain in the shadow and try to climb the ranks by trying to gain favor with the two candidates for the throne but Agentine is never interested in anything so he chose Gaspal. He probably has a lot of insecurities too, so when Ivona praised him he was genuinely happy. I think he will stop at nothing to prove himself and to climb the ranks so whether it's good or bad he will go for what is most beneficial to him.

Yeah it's similar. I think he smart and cunning enough to use people but I'm don't think he's exceptionally smart.

That why I was saying he will end up seducing the duke. The whole thought process was examining whether he was an actual villain or not. That's why I came to the conclusion that he wasn't exactly a victim of circumstances but someone who could take advantage of others while posing as weak. Basically my original point. 'He might attempt to seduce the Duke if Ivona takes him in'. Whatever plan she has.
