He couldn’t really tell if it was rael or Daniel because apparently he wasn’t aware on the existence of Rael. All he know is Daniel and he was confused because there is a time that he felt love and there is a time he felt nothing. Nevertheless,as a person, would you command someone to kill your love one just because you thought he probably an impostor. Wouldn’t you think that the assassin might somehow make a mistake and kill the one that you love because the two are identical?
