I think Iseyama used the farmer as a cover to distract everyone from the possibility that Eren really is the father. Since we've know about her pregnancy, there have been subtle hints that Eren indeed might be the father and I think he did it with the intention to not only protect and by time for Historia but also for whatever plan he has.

I thought it was eren but these farmer theory’s lowkey make sense
