reading and understanding (comprehension) at the same time are both different things. FL doesn't have a teacher to guide her with the words she read. In a library there are basic, intermediate and advance knowledge. Since the Library is located near the harem, the libraries purpose is to technically entertain those concubines who want to kill time. So probably the books collection there are mostly fictional. And she is technically learning about the outside world using a pov of a fictional character.

True. I'm assuming she's comprehending what she's reading even if it's fictional. Stories will always have a plot (whether it's good or not is left to the author and its reader), conflict, and conflict resolution. I'm assuming she would've at least learned about how people can be, even if its a convoluted understanding of them. I'm trying to give her more credit than what we were given, but at the same time how she's lived definitely stunted her mentally.
So the fl was brought to the harem as a child, ok. She had no formal education. She hid herself from the harem, so gonna assume she didn't learn the inner workings of how those women were. But what really bothers me, more than her being gullible and naive, is how she spent all those years hiding and reading in the library and didn't learn shit about people. What kind of books were she reading? Does she actually know how to read? Or was she just looking at pictures. I've got to assume there was more than just helpless fairytales in the library if the ml spent time reading in there too (even if it were just to see her).
