They are male to female transgender women.
Those aren't women born women they are transgender males. If you look closely you can see that they are flat chested and have muscles. Plus when it comes to co-ed american prison's, men and woman are NEVER mixed nor are they allowed to visit one another at any time. I know this because my father is a cop. I had my 'suspictions' when I noticed how flat-chested they were, but decided that didn't really say anything (I mean I am kinda flat-chested too and I was surely born a girl and still am one haha). Well now I understand at least! Thanks :P
This may sound dumb, but I don't really understand why there are women in the prison with them too? Like if there are women, why do so many men get raped? I did some research after reading the first chapter, and it said homosexual males, males with female features or transgenders were likely to be attacked first. So when those women made their first appearance, I thought they were transgenders... But they are female-born-females, aren't they? So are they in a different section, forbidden for males to enter and did I understand it wrong (but then why can they visit them so easily and are they in the same room to play), or is it just a mixed prison (then why do so many men get raped?) or are they really transgenders?
I know I must sound really really dumb right now but I am just so confused (⊙…⊙ )
