It's because all of endeavor's wrongdoings has been shown through his children's point of view, no one actually got to know what HE thought and went through. I actually like how it developed because I've always been blindly siding with Dabi, by assuming endeavor had also abused touya like he did with shouto. but now we all know that he still had a humane nature and wasn't a total monster portrayed by his children. Endeavor cared for his children and that was clearly evident on how he decided not to train dabi anymore because his body was not accustomed to his quirk.
I was really looking forward to how they could possibly try and justify endeavours behaviour or at least have him redeem himself and honestly seemingly shifting some of the blame onto dabi does not feel like a satisfying way of doing that
It distracts from and almost tries to rewrite endeavours nature which has otherwise been portrayed as callous and abusive and whatever like I just find it a bit eh
