Dissapointment

So I was catching up on the last epi of Supergirl, and photojournalist Jimmy Olsen is caught by bad guy CEO Maxwell Lord while Olsen was trying to take incriminating photos at Lord's business. Lord has Olsen tied up and is warning Olsen off, and I was all happy. But then, all Lord does is smash Olsen's camera and beat him up. There wasn't even a caress or groping involved. The director even chose not to include a possible UST subtext. I was so bummed.

Does anyone else get inexplicably disappointed when a perfect yaoi set up is ignored in other genres?

When it's implied in other genres, frankly I don't think it's real esp. on mainstream t.v. I have never seen a show pull it off well like that. I don't watch a lot though. I saw an episiode of Sherlock once between Moriaity and Sherlock. The actors made it work with just a look. That was the only time.

I feel you my Fujoshi Sister - I watched the entire series of Hannibal recently, just waiting for Hannibal and Will to make out, and you know what? There was NOTHING! A good, hard snog would have made that brilliant series - perfect!
But there is still a very good level of subtext in there for slight (excuse the phrase) eye fucking, physical contact etc. Hence the 'Hannigram' abbreviation being adopted for this particular ship (▰˘◡˘▰)

On a side nite, I seriously wish Kishimoto-sensei went all out with the NaruSasu relastionship in Naruto - I heard that he himself ships NaruSasu, but why isn't it canon?! (╯°Д °)╯╧╧

I thought Torchwood did a good job, but I also think once there is a good MM romance in a story, it tends to become about being gay instead of mainstream. I have high hopes for the new Star Wars movies, but there is a good chance I will be disappointed there too.

I feel you on both of those--and may I add Castiel is perfect for Dean on Supernatural. I mean, the angel descended into Hell to save the man, and the angel loved the man before all else--who wouldn't be moved by that?

PS Have you seen Queer as Folk? Obviously not "mainstream" but both the UK and US versions are worth watching.

I wanted to like Queer as folk (US), but didn't make it past the pilot : ( I don't know why but all I saw it as was a 'gay' version on Sex and the City (Which I know is not entirely fair!) But it made it a bit corny in my eyes. But if you say it's good maybe I should give it another go!

Now that I am thinking about MM couples on TV instead of yoai set ups that didn't pan out or slash ships that sail on the whiff of subtext, I mention a few for those who may be looking.

Lafayette and Jesus on True Blood were excellent:

Vex and Mark on Lost girl were not the focus of the story, but I liked them:

Connor and Oliver on How to Get Away with Murder are hot:

There are probably more. But I can slash ship anyone.

The UK version was more realistic, but I was a sucker for Justin and Brian. The MC is Brian's BF and has to get over having had a crush on Brian since childhood--but the story of how the rich, egotistical Brian is pursued and captured by the sweet young things whose nickname is "Sunshine" is my favorite from the show (much more than the healthier,, more conventional relationships):

Justin is a bit young for my taste in season 1, and they never have much in terms of exclusivity, but they have something. There is a sort of "Sex in the City" issue in that they are all young and hot, and they hand out at clubs and date people for plot material, but in defense of the show, there is a lot of eye candy.

With the possible exception of How to Get Away with Murder, I will have to confess my fandoms are heavy on eye candy.

    Depends on your kink.

It didn't have to play out as a beating. It's the exact same set up as VF. The beating is a choice. In the context of fiction, a sexy person holding another sexy person in a vulnerable situation can be written in all sorts of entertaining ways. I see it with MF heroes and villain combinations all the time.
