Idk much but I read that the cardinal (eyebags long hair one) hates shuli bc she reminds him of the late empress. the empress is the one who he had strong feelings for (sexually) and he resents her for that. read the novel if u want to, and then pls tell me what the relationship was between the Neuschwanstein and the empress, I’m curious.

I think Shuli is the one who the high priest is obsessed with. Because when he saw her during her wedding with Johannes, he started becoming obsessed. Like Claude Frollo kind of obsessed.

Basically, the dead empress had a harem. The Emperor, the Marquess Neuschwanstein and Duke Nüremberg. They were all in love/interested in her. The Emperor won her heart though so the others married other women. Marquess Neuschwanstein chose to wed Shuli because she looked like his first love. And probably because he felt bad at seeing the child getting abused
