Even now the church still has quite the toxic and self serving fandom. But of course, the teachings of the bible aren't all bad, still but people use the bible for propaganda and promoting violence and hatred towards people who they don't like.
Imagine, church people back in the 50s or 60s protesting outside against black community's right to vote because "according" to the bible, slaves weren't to stand on equal footing with their "masters"
I'm catholic but I agree that these things happen even in real life especially back in the medieval times. To one up kingdoms and it's people, they always do something corrupt and morally wrong to turn things into their favor.
