For me the realisation came when i couldn't talk with my mom anymore. I'm by no means a social butterfly now, but damn i'm proud of how much i've improved since then. Good on you for overcoming that social barrier too! ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
I relate so much to the "at keast I can still talk to my mom". In 7th grade someone told me I was socially anxious and I said "no way, I talk all day with my family". Well, took me a bit but I'm not socially anxious anymore (=・ω・=)
