that childhood friend is a vampire who got turned by the female leads dad and he was the one that killed her parents, he got crazy after getting turned into a vampire even tho her parents just wanted to protect him, as to why they turned him into one. he is on the bad vampires side, the gods side. he basically is two faced. and the female lead got all her memories back!
