A lot of the time the toner shading is left out of the initial magazine chapters, sensei runs out of time I think. The paperback volumes are always perfectly shaded though, that page too.

Those pages was made when sensei try to find a new assistant. So ppl can try to coloring it (or using tone on that page), sent it to the publisher, then sensei will choose which one's the best one to be her assistant
