I don't really understand but is Azuma in relationship with the girl that gave him a shelter? are they having a s*x? if I'm not mistaken, there was a scene where Joe is kinda listened to their conversation,,,,,(〜 ̄△ ̄)〜

Really? I get the impression that they actually are in a sexual relationship (probably casual). I dunno if Azuma likes her but he definitely admires her (he likes being around mature/mentally strong people older than himself in general). Since she happens to a mature and beautiful their relationship naturally grew from there.

Putting that aside, he definitely likes Jo more though. He just has personal issues that kinda prevent him from being honest with/pursuing Jo. He wants to put aside his past self whom he sees as being mentally weak, and Jo coming onto Azuma so strongly obviously throws a wrench into his plans - hence the hate/love mood-swings.

No problem. I think part of the confusion has to do with the author's writing style that makes conversations hard to follow. I don't know if it's the quality of the translations or subtleties in dialogue that are hard to carry over into English that make things confusing.

Even conversations between Azuma and Jo are hard to follow sometimes because even though they are speaking to each other directly, they like to use indirect words, jumping from subject to subject without explicitly stating what they are now talking about. Most of this is intentional because you will notice that Jo will sometimes begin a conversation, to which Azuma will either not reply by staying silent, or he will forcefully change the subject. So you're left there thinking "Huh?, what are they talking about now?"

All this gets even more confusing when they start talking about their feelings with one another. There are times when I thought Jo had already confessed to Azuma, however it's hard to tell since the translators don't seem to distinguish like (friendship) and love (romantic). I don't think the word love has been used once (when speaking to each other) in these translations even though you can tell that later uses of "like" clearly have a stronger meaning than in earlier chapters.
